A large group of children from Years 5 and 6 headed to Maplesden Noakes School on Tuesday afternoon to compete in the Maidstone indoor Sportshall Athletics competition. Having spent some of our Government Sports Funding on a pack of equipment suitable for the 'field' events, some of the activities we took part in were very familiar, such as speed bouncing and javelin. The 'track' events were newer to us, as there were rebound boards at each end of the hall to pivot on when we turned round.
The children were split into girls and boys teams, and after the initial obstacle and over/under relays had taken place, the girls took to the track and the boys to the field. Once all the activities had taken place, they swapped over, with all the javelin throwing taking place at the very end of the competition, as this needed most space.
Our pupils performed really well, with some excellent individual and team performances including some great wins and some closely fought battles. We finished a very respectable 6th place with 244 points, particularly when you compare the size of our school with most of the other schools who attended, who have more than one class per year group!
Any children who would like to do more athletics outside of school are encouraged to get in touch with Medway and Maidstone Athletics Club.
