Empowering Children to Improve our Environment

The school council is made up of 2 children from Years 1 - 6. Children who would like to be a council representative put themselves forward and then the other children in the class vote for them.

School council members are pupils who are confident enough to be the 'voice of their class'! They meet once a term and their main aim is to organise fundraising events for the school as well as for charities and other good causes. Previous accomplishments have included their involvement playground improvements, support in promoting British Values in our school community and Child in Need fundraising.
To be a good school councillor you need to be:
  • A good listener
  • A clear speaker
  • Trustworthy
  • Helpful
  • Reliable
  • Honest
  • Able to work in a team
  • Able to share good ideas

What have we been doing?

Term 1

Time to go Shopping!

During our 10.30am Monday meeting, Miss. Comerford told us that we had a £300 grant from Councillor Gary Cooke! We couldn't believe our luck and used some Scholastic catalogues to circle our wish lists! We took them out onto the playground and shared our choices with our friends too. Year 6 tried to find deals on sets of books. Year 1 found texts they had enjoyed at home and thought others might like.

'I chose Captain Underpants- I love it when he just wears his pants, I like 'How to Train a Dragon' because I like Toothless!' Cameron, Year 2.

'Some people like comic books, so 'Dog Man' is a good choice.' Ollie, Year 4.

'I've circled 'Each Peach Pear Plum' because my mum used to read it to me when I was little.' Katie, Year 5.
