At the start of term each class voted for their Arts Council representatives.  Our Arts Council for this year are Oscar, Hugo, Maisie, Franklin, Alex, Lottie, Sophie, Bear, Isla, Ilkan, Grace and Nicole. They  are responsible for helping to improve all of the arts (art, music, dance, drama), getting ideas off their peers to help improve the arts and organising events in schools such as competitions, events and themed days. They also help to judge competitions and sometimes take part in special events.

Community art project

On Monday 24th September, Miss Avila accompanied our Year 6 Arts Council members, Grace and Nicole to the unveiling of a local art project we have been involved in.

Please read their report from the morning:

"We arrived and met the team, including Gerald the Giraffe. We were then kitted out in high vis and hard hats and walked over to the site where the art work is being displayed alongside other schools and the church. We had our photos taken by a photographer and interviews with the KM as well as members of Golding Homes. We talked about what we did and why, as well as how we felt about being part of the project and local community. There should be a photo of all of us and maybe a snippet of our interview in the KM!"

Autumn Term

International dot day  

Arts Council met to discuss what to do for the day and agreed to create a whole school piece of art where every child and adult could draw a dot. Arts Council supervised this activity on both playgrounds at lunchtime. 

shaun the sheep trail

We then got the opportunity to decorate a Shaun the Sheep for an exhibition of sculptures around the Maidstone area.

Bellway Homes sponsored us and our Arts Council organised a competition in school to design patterns which we could paint onto our sheep. They then judged the entries and agreed on two winners per class. These were shared in assembly and were painted onto our sheep to represent diversity in our school and local community. 

 

Spring Term

secret artist

In January we played our game of Secret Artists. This is where adults bring in a piece of art and the children have to guess who our secret artists are.

Arts Council made a huge banner advertising this in December and the whole school got very excited as we play this game every year.

Children can also bring in work which is displayed in the corridors so also enter in the fun. The secret artists were revealed in assembly and everyone was really excited to see who had created each piece of work. 

Summer Term

Sports week

In the summer term Arts Council had the very important job of organising our whole school art project for Sports Week. We met up and discussed how best to do this. We greed that some year groups will do rings, and some will draw people and then we’ll start putting everything together.

We also talked about how to get people to remember more in their art lessons. Arts Council thought that we could pick questions out of a hat to help us think about our previous lessons. We agreed to make goldfish bowls, which the children made, with fish in them so we can put the questions into these to help with our retrieval skills.
